NARCAN® is a potentially lifesaving medication designed to help reverse the effects of an opioid overdose in minutes.
Since most opioid overdoses occur in the home and are most often witnessed, having a NARCAN® rescue kit nearby can make all the difference.
Knowing the signs of an opioid overdose is essential to responding quickly.
The signs and symptoms of an opioid overdose emergency can include:
*Unusual sleepiness or unresponsiveness
*Breathing is slow or absent
* Slow heartbeat or low blood pressure
*Skin feels cold and clammy
*Pupils are tiny
*Nails and lips are blue
More than 80% of drug overdose deaths involved opioids.
By equipping individuals with naloxone and training them to identify and respond to an overdose, the potential delay between the onset of an opioid overdose and the delivery of life-saving care can be reduced from hours to seconds. This is especially true in rural areas, where residents may experience longer EMS response times.

The NARCAN® Direct Program provides NARCAN® at no cost to community agencies like SIR House.
These organizations distribute the NARCAN® they receive at no cost to people at risk for an opioid overdose and people who may witness an opioid overdose.
When SIR House receives the medication, we distribute it in our area to detox facilities and sober living homes.
